Tottenham Reportedly Eyeing Late £38m Dash for Schalke Attacker Max Meyer

Tottenham are reportedly weighing up the possibility of making a £38m bid for Schalke attacking midfielder Max Meyer as the transfer deadline approaches on Wednesday, German publication Sport Bild reports.

Spurs' move for the Germany international, 20, is understood to be a contingency plan should a deal for Real Madrid star Isco fail, with his former club Malaga thought to be fronting the queue to sign the Spain international.

Reports suggest the north London giants will be willing to part with a hefty sum of £38m to prise the 20-year-old away from the club he joined as a thirteen-year-old. But despite the large sum, it is understood Schalke are unwilling to let another of their young stars leave after allowing Leroy Sane depart to Manchester City earlier this summer.

Meyer has made steady progress since his debut back in 2012 as a raw 16-year-old and while still not a regular for the Germany national team, the youngster has become of Schalke's focal points, which was highlighted by his 41 appearances last season across all competitions.

Earlier this summer, the attacking midfielder expressed his desire to one day play in the Premier League should the opportunity arise.

He said: "If I left Schalke and was going to play football in any other league in Europe I would like to move to England."?

Meyer would be expected to compete with Christian Eriksen, who has largely struggled in the opening stages of the Premier League, for the attacking midfielder spot.

The Dane is expected to sing a new five-year contract at the club after agreeing on a new wage deal.
