2025 AFCON: Uganda unveils squad to face Nigeria

Uganda's head coach, Paul Put, has announced a 30-man provisional squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The squad features four goalkeepers, nine defenders, five midfielders, and a strong 16-man forward line, including teenage sensation James Bogere, who made his senior debut after impressing at the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

The Cranes, Uganda's national team, will depart for Morocco today, December 7, for an 11-day training camp, where they will play two friendly matches to fine-tune their preparations.

Uganda is grouped with Nigeria, Tunisia, and Tanzania in Group C, and will face Tunisia in their opening match on December 23.

"We are confident that we can do well in the tournament," Put said, adding that the team's major target is to qualify from the group stage.

The Cranes will rely heavily on their attacking prowess, with a strong lineup of forwards, including Melvyn Lorenzen, Travis Mutyaba, and Steven Mukwala.

Uganda's squad includes experienced players like Denis Onyango, Khalid Aucho, and Timothy Awany, as well as emerging talents like James Bogere and Allan Okello.

The team will be looking to make a mark in the tournament, having last reached the round of 16 in 2019.
