Spurs sweat on Dembele verdict

Published on: 07 November 2018

Tottenham Hotspur are waiting to find out the extent of the ankle injury suffered by midfielder Mousa Dembele early on in the 3-2 victory over Wolves at Molineux.

Dembele limped off very early on on Saturday evening, with Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino hopeful that the problem might not prove to be too serious.

I hope it's not a big issue and he can be back as soon as possible with the team.

He told reporters: "We don't know, but we are a little bit worried, we'll see. I don't want to say anything because we need to assess him tomorrow and of course Monday.

"It was a little bit of a shame because it's not only that we changed the plan after five minutes, but for him we feel sorry for him and we hope that it's not a big issue.

"It is very painful now, but I repeat I hope it's not a big issue and he can be back as soon as possible with the team."

Meanwhile, Pochettino also confirmed that he had kept both Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen out of action at Molineux due to the midfield duo having only recently returned to action after injury problems.

The Argentinian added: "Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen, if you follow us, they came back from injuries and we need to be clever in the way that we manage them."

Spurs are back in action on Tuesday evening when they play host to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.

Tottenham are 1/3 to defeat PSV and are 7/1 to claim a 2-0 victory, with both teams to score available at 4/6.
