Spalletti: Barca are the best

Published on: 07 November 2018

Inter Milan head coach Luciano Spalletti has challenged his players to show what they can do against what he believes is the best team in the world, Barcelona.

Having been beaten 2-0 by Barca in the Camp Nou in a Champions League clash two weeks ago, the Nerazzurri get a chance to do better in their own San Siro on Tuesday evening.

Barcelona represents the highest level of difficulty that there is.

And Spalletti is well aware that his team will have to perform at their optimum if they are to have any chance of inflicting only a second defeat of the season on the Catalan giants.

He told the Italian media: "They are the best, it is the most difficult match in the game. We've always said that we can play against any opponent, this is the chance to see if we really can compete against any side.

"Barcelona represents the highest level of difficulty that there is. They are already at the level that we are looking to reach.

"We want to stay as far away as possible from our own box and to do that we need to be a team.

"We need to be good in making sure our opponents don't have time to play, giving continuous pressure where all the players follow the ball.

"It takes 100 per cent to beat Barcelona and we need to be able to do that."

Inter, who are unbeaten in three previous Champions League meetings with Barca in Milan, are 5/2 to claim a draw on Tuesday and are 12/1 to edge a 1-0 victory, with Mauro Icardi 5/4 to score at any time in the game.
