Napoli Close in on Porto Midfielder Héctor Herrera

Published on: 15 June 2016

Napoli are said to be fervent in their pursuit of Porto midfielder Hector Herrera and a report on Sport Mediaset claims that the player's agent will soon land in Italy to meet with club chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis.

Porto want €25m for the 26-year-old, who is currently away with his country Mexico on Copa America duty, but Napoli are keen to get him for €5m less, and will try to convince the Portuguese outfit to settle for a lower fee.

De Laurentiis won't have much time, though, as the player is apparently in high demand, and other clubs are willing to pay the €25m to Porto for his services, with Liverpool believed to be among the interested parties.

The difference in valuation could give the Reds time to swoop in for the player, but given their penchant for missing out on chief targets, the Naples side don't necessarily need to panic.

The Mexican scored nine league goals in 29 appearances for Porto during the season and has scored one goal for his country in the Copa America so far.

He would be a great fit at Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp desperate to bolster his attack for the upcoming season.

Napoli are trying to do the very same, and are currently in the driver's seat, but if they can't reach an agreement in short order, they stand a great chance of losing this battle.
