Martin Skrtel's Agent Says Defender Is '90% Certain' to Leave Liverpool

Published on: 25 May 2016

"?Martin Skrtel is almost certainly set to leave Liverpool this summer, according to his agent Karol Csonto.

Speaking on "?Slovakian TV Markíz, Csonto said: "I can say that it is 90 percent sure Martin will leave Liverpool, but it is far from closed."

Skrtel fell out of favour towards the end of the season at Anfield failing to have any role in Liverpool's Europa League final loss at the hands of Sevilla, instead having to watch on from the stands.

A hamstring injury in December ruled the Slovakian out for three months and the centre back failed to force himself back into the picture upon his return to the side with Sakho and Lovren striking up a partnership.

Even when Sakho was suspended, Jurgen Klopp opted to play 35-year-old Kolo Toure instead of Skrtel, which is a sure sign of how far down the pecking order he was.

A second-half appearance by Skrtel against Southampton where Liverpool threw away a two goal lead to lose 3-2, largely down to the Slovakian, was the moment when most Liverpool fans decided they had enough of the defender.

Well it Southampton didn't prove anything to Klopp about Skrtel, I hope today has ??? no good comes from Skrtel being in the side

Regarding his future, his agent said nothing is set in stone just yet, with a move to Turkey is looking the most likely, although he hasn't made any agreements with any clubs just yet.

Karol Csonto said: "It's complete nonsense, he has not signed any contract (with Besiktas). I've even talked with Martin about another club.

"Besiktas is one of those interested in Martin, but we're haven't reached a point where I can confirm Martin is going there, or anywhere else."

Skrtel signed for Liverpool back in 2008 under Rafa Benitez and went on to make a total of 320 appearances, scoring 18 goals for the club.

The centre-back will depart Anfield having won just one trophy in his time at the club, that being the League Cup triumph under Kenny Dalglish back in 2012.
