USL Dunkerque have strengthened their attack with the signing of former AC Milan, Rennes and Bordeaux forward M’Baye Niang.
The 31-year-old Senegal international was a free agent and has agreed a one-year contract with the Ligue 2 club, with the option of an additional season. He arrives at Dunkerque hoping to relaunch his career and make a significant contribution to the team’s campaign.
Niang began his career at Caen before moving on to a series of clubs in France and elsewhere in Europe. His previous teams include AC Milan, Montpellier, Rennes, Bordeaux, Auxerre and Empoli.
His experience at the highest level, combined with his athletic profile, is expected to give Dunkerque more options in attack. The club will also look to his finishing and experience in the final third as they seek to improve their results.
Dunkerque have collected five points from their opening five Ligue 2 matches. Niang could therefore quickly become an important figure for the northern club as they look for greater attacking efficiency.
His current market value is estimated at 800,000 euros by Transfermarkt. The move offers the Senegalese forward an opportunity to regain a prominent role while helping Dunkerque pursue their ambitions during the season.
Dunkerque’s next fixture will be their Ligue 2 match for the sixth round of the French championship, against Saint-Etienne.
