Gracia retains faith in Okaka

Published on: 07 November 2018

Watford head coach Javi Gracia has told Stefano Okaka that he will have to be patient as he attempts to win his first-team place back.

Troy Deeney, Andre Gray and Isaac Success have all impressed when playing in attack for the Hornets this season while Italian forward Okaka made his first Premier League appearance of the campaign on Saturday when he came on as a late substitute in the 1-0 defeat at Newcastle United.

The 29-year-old former Roma, Parma, Sampdoria and Anderlecht striker has only started 13 top-flight games for Watford since moving to Vicarage Road in the summer of 2016.

He missed a great chance to grab a late equaliser at St James' Park and may have to wait a while longer before getting another chance to impress.

"There are many things, there are players playing well at this moment. All of them deserve more time and more minutes," Gracia said. "It is not easy because in the games you can only play 11 in the beginning and three subs after that.

"However, there are different options to play as a striker and Stefano is one of them. I am happy for him because he is now available after a long period out."

Watford face Southampton this weekend. Gracia's team are 19/10 to beat Saints and 11/1 to win the encounter 2-1.
