"?Former England manager Fabio Capello has revealed how he was able to sign legendary Brazilian left-back Roberto Carlos during his first spell in the hot-seat at Real Madrid.
The Italian enjoyed two brief spells at the Bernabeu where he won the La Liga title in both one-year stints, the first of which came in the 1996/1997 season.
Whilst Capello was unable create any real long-term legacy at Los Blancos, he did make arguably one of the club's greatest ever signings when he bought Roberto Carlos from Inter Milan, who were at the time, managed by Roy Hodgson.
Despite already being recognised as one of the world's best full-backs, Madrid were able to successfully buy the Brazilian and Capello has revealed it was perhaps more straightforward than many people believe.
The 70-year-old told Fox Sports (as quoted by "?AS football): "I couldn't believe it. I had received some reports saying that he [Carlos] was annoyed with his manager at Inter, Roy Hodgson.
"Shortly after I arrived at Real, an agent called me to say that Inter were selling Roberto Carlos. I sent a fax, spoke with the president and the next day the deal was done. It could have been the quickest signing in history..."
Carlos went on to enjoy 11 years at the Bernabeu and won endless trophies with the 'Galacticos', including four La Liga titles and three UEFA Champions Leagues, the last of which was in 2002 where he assisted Zinedine Zidane's famous volley in the final against Bayer Leverkusen.
Having made over 500 appearances for Real Madrid, the Brazilian eventually left the club in 2007 and has gone down as one of football's most iconic defenders, although he is perhaps most famously known for his phenomenal ability to score free kicks.
