Why Ndidi’s Leicester City Must sign Nigeria international to King Power if Belgian star leaves

With the transfer window in full swing and clubs around the world scrambling to get in new players to strengthen their squads, Nigerian players are no different as a lot of them are being courted by well-ranked clubs around the globe.

Arsenal has been linked with the signing of Belgian midfielder Youri Tielemans with a fee in the region of 30 million euros being quoted.

The Gunners are in need of midfield reinforcements after the loss of Thomas Partey contributed massively to their collapse in the chase for the top four positions.

Tielemans is a great candidate to play as an advanced number eight in front of the defensive midfielder in Mikel Arteta's system.

His probing passing, dribbling and creativity are top-notch, he can defend small spaces effectively but is quite weak when having to defend big spaces or transitions.

Selling the Belgian will no doubt leave Leicester City short in the midfield, thus a need to find a replacement.

With Leicester City's manager Brendan Rodgers favouring a slightly different 4-2-3-1 approach which occasionally metamorphoses into a 4-1-4-1 depending on the opposition, the 49-year-old ex-Liverpool manager should target Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo as a replacement for Tielemans in his tactical set-up.

With his long strides and quick feet, Aribo is a great line-breaking passer who struts around the pitch with the intent of controlling the flow of play in between the lines.

The Rangers man is also very good at moving the ball quickly into the forward positions to release anyone moving into space.

He also lets his influence on the attack known with his trademark forward sprints and quick adjustment of his footing to unleash angled shots or make diagonal passes.

Aribo is also a roamer who can defend small and huge spaces, unlike Tielemans. He can also play wide on the right, either as a right-winger in a 4-4-2 formation or as an inverted right-wing forward in a 3-angled attack and even as a top 9 as seen in the Europa League final which shows how incredibly versatile the Nigerian is.

Signing Aribo is almost a like-for-like replacement for Tielemans with more defensive drive. Leicester would do well to take a chance with the Nigerian.
