Simon Adingra starts new Netherlands chapter after agreeing Ajax loan

Published on: 02 September 2026

Simon Adingra will continue his career in the Netherlands after joining Ajax Amsterdam on a season-long loan from Sunderland, with the Dutch club holding an option to buy the Ivorian winger.

The move gives Adingra a fresh opportunity to make his mark at one of the Netherlands’ leading clubs. It follows his loan spell at AS Monaco last season, meaning the Cote d’Ivoire international will spend another campaign away from Sunderland.

Adingra’s latest temporary move represents the next stage in his development as he attempts to establish himself in Ajax colours. The agreement allows him to begin a new experience in Dutch football while leaving open the possibility of a permanent transfer at the end of the loan.

The winger therefore heads into the new season with both an immediate challenge and a longer-term target. His priority will be to convince Ajax that he can become an important part of the team, while the purchase option gives the club the opportunity to retain him beyond the initial one-year arrangement.

For Sunderland, the deal provides another season in which Adingra can continue his career elsewhere. The 2025-26 campaign will be his second consecutive loan spell, after he spent the previous season with AS Monaco.

Adingra now turns his attention to Ajax Amsterdam and the demands of competing under the colours of the Dutch club. The switch to the Netherlands offers him a different setting from his previous loan in Monaco and a chance to build on that experience.

The terms of the agreement mean his future will remain open until the end of the season. Ajax Amsterdam can decide whether to activate the option to buy, while Adingra will have the campaign to demonstrate that he can establish himself at the club.

For now, however, the central point is that the Ivorian international has moved to Ajax on loan. Sunderland have sent him out again, and the player will seek to use the opportunity to strengthen his position and make a lasting impression in Amsterdam.

Adingra’s career will consequently continue outside England for another season, with the Netherlands becoming the latest destination in his professional journey. After his time at AS Monaco, the winger has been presented with another chance to gain experience and prove his value at a new club.

The Ajax move combines an immediate loan with the possibility of a permanent outcome. That gives the season added significance for all three parties: Ajax Amsterdam will assess the player, Sunderland will follow his progress, and Adingra will work towards securing a regular role under the Dutch club’s colours.

He begins the new chapter with a clear objective to establish himself at Ajax Amsterdam while the option to buy ensures that his stay could extend beyond the initial season.
