Former Nigeria defender Osinachi Ohale has joined Italian club Como 1907 on a permanent deal after leaving Mexican side Pachuca.
The 34-year-old centre-back arrives as a free agent following a three-year spell with Pachuca, during which she scored six goals in 81 league appearances.
Ohale is returning to Italian football after previously playing for AS Roma in 2020. Her move to Como marks the latest chapter in a club career that has taken her across several countries.
“I’m happy to return to Italy and embark on this new experience here in Como; I have a very positive feeling about it,” Ohale told Como 1907’s official website.
“I’m ready to do whatever the coach asks of me to help the team.”
The defender’s experience was highlighted by Como 1907 Women’s Technical Director Nils Nielsen, who believes her defensive qualities and international background will strengthen the squad.
“Osinachi is a very experienced and good defender. Representing Nigeria for more than 15 years, many as captain, her international experience is extremely valuable for us,” Nielsen said.
“Her ability to place herself in the right spot defensively, and her 1 on 1 skills in marking as well as aerial strengths will help the team for sure.”
Ohale began her professional career in Nigeria in 2008 before going on to play in the United States, Sweden, Italy, Spain and Mexico.
She spent more than 15 years representing Nigeria and wore the captain’s armband on several occasions. During her international career, she won the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) five times.
Ohale announced her retirement from international football last month, ending her time with the Super Falcons after a distinguished career.
Her departure from Pachuca followed three seasons with the Mexican club, where she established herself as an experienced presence in defence and made 81 league appearances.
Como will now benefit from her return to Italy, where she previously featured for AS Roma, as the defender begins her new challenge with the club.
