Edo Queens FC reached the final of the CAF Women’s Champions League qualifying tournament for the UFOA-B zone with a commanding 5-1 victory over USFA at the Stade du 4-Aout in Ouagadougou on Wednesday.
The Nigerian side established control early and went into half-time with a three-goal advantage, leaving USFA facing a difficult task to keep their semi-final hopes alive.
Edo Queens continued to dictate the match after the interval. Esther Moses added to the Nigerian team’s lead in the 47th minute, completing her second goal of the game as Edo Queens maintained their attacking momentum.
Aminat Folorunsho Ajoke also played a part in the fresh attacking push from Edo Queens as they extended their advantage and moved decisively towards the final.
USFA eventually found a response late in the match, with Wendkuuni Beremwidougou reducing the deficit in the 90th minute with a free-kick. The goal offered the Burkinabe side a consolation, but it could not alter the outcome of a one-sided contest.
Edo Queens captain Valentine Uroko was named woman of the match after helping her side secure their place in the deciding fixture.
The Nigerian club will play in the final on Saturday, 5 September. Their opponents will be either Ampem Darkoa Ladies or Dynamique FC, who meet in the other semi-final at 19:00 GMT on Wednesday.
The result means Edo Queens have taken the next step in their bid to progress through the UFOA-B qualifying tournament, while USFA’s campaign ends at the semi-final stage.
