Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi has suffered a fresh injury setback, this time a calf problem, confirms manager Nuno Espírito Santo, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The 27-year-old Nigerian international missed Forest's pre-season opener against Chesterfield on Saturday.
Santo revealed that Awoniyi sustained the injury during the first training session of the week, saying, "He had a problem in the first training session of the week. Let's see how long it takes."
The Forest boss expressed hope that Awoniyi's injury won't keep him out for too long, acknowledging the importance of pre-season training, especially for the injury-prone striker.
Awoniyi’s playing time was cut limited last season due to injury featuring for the Tricky Trees in just 20 league games, contributing six goals and three assists.
