Aston Villa's Pursuit of David Wagner Rebuffed as He Opts to Remain With Huddersfield Town

Published on: 07 October 2016

"?Aston Villa's pursuit of Huddersfield boss David Wagner has been thwarted after the German opted to remain with the table topping side.

"?The Guardian report that Wagner is now no longer in the frame as he wants to stay with Huddersfield, meaning Steve Bruce is now favourite to take over.

Roberto Di Matteo was sacked earlier this week following the club's dismal start to the season, in which Villa only won once. This prompted Villa to pursue Wagner who has now removed himself from the frame.

Wagner was part of Jurgen Klopp's staff as the manager of Borussia Dortmund's second team, and has since taken Huddersfield to the top of the table.

However, Huddersfield chairman Dean Hoyle has categorically said that Wagner will not be leaving the Yorkshire club.

Hoyle told the "?Huddersfield's website, "The club doesn't want to get into a situation where it has to comment every time David or a player is linked with a move away, but setting the position out once will help to set our fans' minds at ease.

"Like everyone, I know David has aspirations to manage at the highest level "? but I also know he wants that to be with Huddersfield, which we're all working to make possible in the future. David has told me that he would never leave us for another Championship club, regardless of which club that is."?

Hoyle went on to say, "We all feel like something is coming together here at Huddersfield Town and we're fully committed to seeing that through.

"Hopefully this will help to put some of our fans' minds at ease as we all aim to continue our good start to the season, with the game against Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday, 16 October the only focus."
