UCL: What Chelsea, United need to do

Published on: 01 November 2017

Here's what the teams need to do to seal progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League after they have reached four games.

GROUP A

Man United (12): One point from their remaining two games with FC Basel or CSKA Moscow

FC Basel (6): Beat Man United in their next game and then cement their spot with a point vs. Benfica.

CSKA Moscow (6): Beat Benfica in their next game and then cement their spot with a point vs. Man United.

Benfica (0): Need to win their next two games and with a better record than either FC Basel (5-0) or CSKA Moscow (2-1), while also hoping both teams lose.

GROUP B

PSG (12): Through. Need four points from their two games to cement top spot if Bayern win both of theirs.

Bayern (9): Through on head-to-head after beating Celtic twice. Need PSG to lose and to beat them 4-0 to seal top spot.

Celtic (3): Out. Can seal Europa League spot by beating Anderlecht.

Anderlecht (0). Out. Can seal Europa League spot by beating Celtic if they lose to PSG and Anderlecht draw with Bayern.

GROUP C

Roma (8): A win over Atletico seals it if Chelsea lose or draw in Qarabag. Or they can afford to wait and beat Qarabag on final day.

Chelsea (7): One win over Qarabag away will do, but they must hope Atletico beat Roma if they want top spot.

Atletico Madrid (3): Must beat Roma (H) and Chelsea (A) to have any hope of avoiding Europa League.

Qarabag (2): Can cause a massive upset by beating Chelsea, but would need a miracle.

GROUP D

Barcelona (10): A point from their two games seals progress, beat Juve in their next game and they cement top spot.

Juventus (7): Beat Barcelona and they are through, but fail and they'd need to beat Olympiakos if Sporting don't lose their next game.

Sporting Lisbon (4): Must beat Olympiakos and hope Barcelona beat Juventus. But they won't progress on head-to-head, so need to better Juve's final result too.

Olympiakos (1): Slim hopes if they beat Sporting and Juventus, but only if both teams lose their games.

Other group games will appear here on Wednesday night.
