Super Falcons midfielder, Toni Payne, assisted Everton women to a crucial victory over reigning champion, Chelsea, in the Barclays Women's Super League (WSL) on Sunday, Nigeriasiccernet.com reports.
Everton Women produced one of the biggest upsets of the season by defeating Chelsea Women 1–0 at Kingsmeadow — handing Chelsea their first domestic league defeat in 585 days and ending a 34-game unbeaten run in the Women's Super League.
The decisive moment came in the 12th minute when former Sevilla FC Women winger Toni Payne whipped in a precise cross from the right flank — and Japanese forward Honoka Hayashi was on hand at the far post to clinically convert. That assist marked Payne’s third goal contribution of the WSL season.
The win lifts Everton to ninth place in the table and deals a heavy blow to Chelsea’s title hopes, particularly as it represents the first WSL defeat of the season under Chelsea’s coach Sonia Bompastor.
Payne played for 66 minutes before she was replaced by van Gool.
