The much anticipated international friendly game between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Ukraine will be played at the Dnipro Arena on September 10. This was confirmed on the official website of the Ukrainian Association of Football (UAF) on Tuesday. The encounter will serve as a build-up for Nigeria’s 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Benin while Ukraine will face Lithuania in EURO 2020 qualifier. It reads, “September 10, Ukraine’s national team, for the first time in history, will play a friendly match with three-time African champion – Nigeria, who recently confirmed their status as of one of the continent’s strongest teams with the bronze medal of the 2019 Africa Cup [of Nations in Egypt],” the UAF website informed. “Considering the postponement of the friendly match with the Turks, which was supposed to take place in Dnipro in November last year, such a decision is absolutely logical and fair,” said UAF President Andrey Pavelko.

Super Eagles Technical Adviser Gernot Rohr has revealed that his return to Super Eagles was the outcome of the family meeting held in Capferrete, France.

Rohr said after discussing his terms of the contract with his family, he was told to see off his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) which ends mid next year before considering other offers.

The Franco-German born tactician also stated that apart from his family decision, some players called and asked him not to quit as they are happy with his rebuilding process of the team.

“Well I love Nigeria and they are very good people. I also discovered that football is like a religion in Nigeria. You must be at your best if any coach wants to succeed because they hardly welcome failure. You must win your matches. I know I have not won any major trophy but I have done the most important thing by building confidence in the team.” Rohr revealed.
