Super Eagles B to commence camp for 2024 CHAN next Monday

Published on: 02 January 2025

Nigeria’s home-based Super Eagles are set to begin preparations for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) on Monday next week, Nigeriasoccernet.com can report.

The team secured qualification for the prestigious tournament by defeating arch-rivals, the Black Galaxies of Ghana, 3-1 on aggregate. This victory marks a triumphant return to the CHAN competition after a six-year absence, reigniting hopes for a strong performance on the continental stage.

While the team’s commitment to early preparation is commendable, the location of their training camp remains unconfirmed. During their qualification campaign, the Super Eagles B utilized the state-of-the-art training facilities of Remo Stars in Ikenne, Ogun State, as their base. Whether this venue will be retained or a new location will be selected for CHAN preparations is yet to be announced by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The 2024 CHAN tournament will be co-hosted by three East African nations—Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda. This marks the first time the competition is being hosted across multiple countries, promising a unique blend of cultures and football atmospheres. The tournament will serve as a platform for showcasing talents from domestic leagues across Africa.

Head coach Augustine Eguavoen, who led the team to victory against Ghana, is expected to oversee preparations as the squad aims to build on their momentum. The NFF has reportedly been in talks to ensure optimal conditions for the players, including access to top-notch training facilities and high-profile friendly matches.

CHAN, which exclusively features players plying their trade in their home countries, has historically provided a launchpad for budding talents to gain international recognition. Nigeria’s last appearance at CHAN was in 2018, where they reached the final but lost to Morocco.

As the countdown to the competition begins, fans eagerly anticipate the announcement of the team’s camping location and hope for a rigorous preparation schedule that will position the Super Eagles B as strong contenders for the title.
