Osayi-Samuel injury casts doubt on AFCON qualifiers availability

Published on: 27 August 2024

Nigeria defender, Bright Osayi-Samuel is a major doubt for the Super Eagles' upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda due to an ankle injury, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The 26-year-old Fenerbahce fullback missed his club's 5-0 win over Caykur Rizespor last weekend and may now be omitted from the national team's squad.

The Super Eagles is set to announce his selection for the crucial qualifiers this week, with Osayi-Samuel's injury status likely to influence his decision.

Nigeria faces Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on September 7, before traveling to Kigali to take on Rwanda three days later.

Nigeria will be seeking to secure vital points in their AFCON qualifying campaign, but Osayi-Samuel's potential absence could be a significant blow to their chances.

The three-time African champions will be eager to find a suitable replacement and ensure a strong squad for the upcoming matches.
