Victor Osimhen has pledged to continue giving everything to Galatasaray after his two goals helped the Turkish champions defeat Fenerbahce in a keenly contested Istanbul derby.
The Nigeria international struck in the 29th minute and added a second goal shortly before half-time, ensuring Galatasaray collected three points and returned to the top of the Turkish Super Lig table.
Fenerbahce tried to respond after the interval, with Irfan Kahveci reducing the deficit two minutes after the hour mark. However, the hosts held on to secure a crucial derby victory, described as a 2-0 win for Galatasaray.
The performance marked a return to form for Osimhen, who had faced criticism for his recent displays. The 27-year-old had also scored in Galatasaray’s 4-2 UEFA Champions League victory over former club Lille the previous week.
Osimhen focused on Galatasaray support
Osimhen said the criticism had not distracted him from his commitment to Galatasaray, insisting that he was paying greater attention to the backing of the club’s supporters than to comments on social media.
“There were discussions before the match this week. I love this club. I always say it. I will give everything for this club. I don’t care about social media. I see the fans. Galatasaray fans have always been behind me since I arrived,” Osimhen told the club’s official website.
He praised the support shown to him and those close to him since his arrival, while expressing confidence that the team could achieve further success.
“They supported my family, me, and my friends. I focus on the fans’ support, not on unimportant things. I look at my team. I believe we will achieve even greater successes.”
Derby win strengthens title bid
The striker said victories in matches against major rivals would be essential if Galatasaray were to become champions.
“Winning derbies is crucial for becoming champions. We managed to win this big derby and get three points. We are happy because of the team, the performance, and the fans,” Osimhen added.
He also credited the supporters for creating a difficult atmosphere for Fenerbahce while providing strong encouragement for the home side.
“Our fans both troubled the opponent and supported us very well. We want to lift all the trophies, no matter what competition we are in. We followed the coach’s instructions correctly. I congratulate our team. We earned a deserved three points.”
