Coach Deji Ayeni has stated that determination and never say die spirit earned his side a win over Gombe United in the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL match day 8 tie on Thursday, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Akwa United edged Gombe United at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium by a goal to nil courtesy of a Uche Collins header in the first half of the game.
Ayeni commended his team for their doggedness and their ability to defend well which ensured they fought to get their fourth win of the season.
“I really want to commend my players for today’s victory. Their determination and never say die spirit gave us this victory, Ayeni said after the match in Uyo.
‘I’m excited that we were able to score and defend till the end. We always go with the aim of scoring many goals but where we can’t score, we don’t have to concede. We created lots of chances especially in the first-half but we could not convert them. Obviously, we have to continue improving on all observe lapses to ensure we achieve our aim this season’’
Akwa United will travel to the Lekan Salami Stadium to trade tackles with Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan in their next game on Sunday.
