NPFL UPDATE: Rangers Raid Ikorodu To Seal League Title

Published on: 25 September 2016

Enugu Rangers are hoping to get all three points from already relegated Ikorodu United today in Abeokuta to confirm their status as Nigeria Professional Football League champions.

A win will guarantee Rangers their first title in 34 years, but they face tough challenge from Rivers United and Wikki Tourists. Rangers are top on 57 points, Rivers United a point behind, while Wikki are third on 54 points. Both Rivers United and Wikki hope Rangers will drop points in Abeokuta while they win their respective games so that the title race will now have to go right down to the final day of action on October 2.

Experienced Rangers skipper Okey Odita said: “We will be champions. God is behind us. By God’s grace we will take all the three points against Ikorodu United.” Acting chairman Steve Oruruo added,”We are on course.

It is the final before final in Abeokuta. “There is a lot of expectations on the team and I expect the team to play with their blood in the last two matches. Rangers are more encouraged to win than Ikorodu.” Rivers United title dreams have suffered because of a poor away record, but they are home to Abia Warriors this weekend and hope to keep the pressure on Rangers with a win in Port Harcourt.
