Enyimba forward Wonah William has blamed his side’s failure to take their chances for a disappointing 0-0 draw with Warri Wolves in Aba.
The People’s Elephant were held by the Seasiders at the Enyimba International Stadium on Sunday, leaving the nine-time Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions with only two victories from their opening nine matches of the season.
Enyimba created opportunities during the game but could not find a way past Warri Wolves’ defence. William said the team’s overall performance was positive, although their lack of precision in the final third proved decisive.
“We played very well, but we failed to convert our chances in the game,” William said in a post-match interview.
The result extended a difficult start to the campaign for Enyimba, who were unable to make home advantage count against the Seasiders.
William said the players would use training to correct the problems exposed in front of goal before their next fixture.
“It’s quite unfortunate, but I believe we will work on it ahead of our next game,” he added.
Enyimba will now turn their attention to an away match against Nasarawa United in Lafia. William remains confident that his side can respond with a positive result.
“We will shift our focus to our next match against Nasarawa United, and I believe we can get a positive result there,” he said.
