Nigeria eligible Matai Akinmboni close in on Bournemouth switch

Published on: 02 January 2025

Matai Akinmboni is on the verge of completing a permanent switch from Major Soccer League (MLS) side D.C. United to EPL outfit Bournemouth, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The 18-year-old Nigeria-eligible defender is expected to cost £1m upfront plus add-ons and has already jetted out to England to complete his medical before the transfer is completed.

Having made his first United States under-17 soccer team training camp back in August 2022, Matai is still fit to switch allegiance to Ghana also through his parentage.

He is seen as a player of huge promise, like summer signing Dean Huijsen from Juventus who is already been tracked by Real Madrid, and Bournemouth moved swiftly in talks to land him, beating out fierce competition from top European clubs.
