Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi says it will be a bonus if the Black Stars go ahead to win the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

Expectations of the Ghana team are low following their struggles throughout the qualifiers for this month’s finals to be staged by Equatorial Guinea.

The Black Stars are still considered to be suffering from the after-effects of their disappointing campaign at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The late appointment of Avram Grant as coach of the side just six weeks to the start of the Nations Cup also increases the odds against the Black Stars excelling at the finals.

The Ghana FA say they only expect the Black Stars to do well under Grant at this year’s event to provide a solid foundation to win the 2017 edition.

GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi affirms this stand by saying an unexpected triumph in Equatorial Guinea will only be a bonus.

“I am hopeful that we’ll go far,” Nyantakyi told Goal Ghana.

“It will be unrealistic to give him target to win trophy… If we win it will be a bonus but 2017 is our target.”

Ghana is drawn in the toughest group at the 2015 AFCON where they will face Senegal, Algeria and South Africa.
