Namibia arrive in Russia for international friendly against Russia

Namibia’s national team, the Brave Warriors, have arrived in Russia ahead of their international friendly against the Russian national team in Yekaterinburg on 3 October.

The delegation received a warm welcome on arrival, with every member presented with a piece of green malachite, a stone closely associated with the Ural region, along with a traditional welcome armband.

The match will follow Namibia’s latest TotalEnergies CAF PAMOJA 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture, in which they were beaten 1-0 by Comoros in Group G on Tuesday.

Benjaloud Youssouf scored the decisive goal in the 54th minute after a goalless first half. The victory gave Comoros three important points following their 3-1 defeat by Cameroon in their opening qualifier.

Namibia had begun their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Congo but were unable to find an equaliser against Comoros, despite making several second-half changes as they sought to rescue a point.

The result leaves Comoros, Namibia and Cameroon level on three points in the group. Cameroon, however, have played one match fewer.
