Euromatch–NPFL clubs receive first payment from $7.5m sponsorship deal

All 20 clubs in the Euromatch–NPFL shared the first tranche of the league’s title sponsorship agreement at a ceremony in Abuja on Friday.

The payment represents the portion due to the clubs from the money received so far by the league, although the full annual sponsorship amount has not yet been paid to the NPFL.

Dr Ayo Abdulrahman, Chief Operating Officer of the NPFL, confirmed that the three-year agreement with Euromatch is worth $7.5m in total. The deal provides $2.5m for each year.

That figure is higher than earlier reports that had placed the value of the sponsorship agreement at about $1m.

NPFL explains club payments

Abdulrahman said the clubs competing in the Euromatch–NPFL 2026/2027 season had been paid the agreed percentage from the sponsorship income already received by the league.

“The tranches that have been received, the percentage due to the clubs has been paid to the clubs,” Dr Abdulrahman said.

“But we haven’t yet received all the amount for the year,” the Euromatch–NPFL COO added.

The NPFL official stressed that the $7.5m figure refers to the complete value of the sponsorship package across three years, rather than the amount currently held by the league or distributed to the clubs.

“This clarification is very important: $7.5m is the total three-year sponsorship package, not the actual money already received by the NPFL or its clubs,” he said.

Abdulrahman then outlined how the overall figure would be paid during the agreement.

“$7.5m is the total sum for the three-year deal. $2.5m is the amount meant for each of the three years of sponsorship, while the first tranche received by the NPFL has already been shared with the clubs based on their agreed percentage,” he explained.

The distribution means the clubs have received their share of the initial funds transferred to the league, while further payments remain due once the outstanding amount for the year is received.
