Mohamed Ouedraogo misses out again as Lyon’s left-back hierarchy holds firm

Mohamed Ouedraogo will have to wait longer for another chance with the Olympique Lyonnais first team after being left out of the squad for Friday’s Ligue 1 meeting with AJ Auxerre.

The Burkina Faso defender is absent from the group for a second consecutive league match, extending his current wait for a return to competitive first-team action. His omission means he will not be involved when Lyon host Auxerre.

Ouedraogo’s position in the squad remains affected by the competition at left-back. The young Burkinabe currently sits behind Nicolas Tagliafico and Abner in the pecking order, limiting his opportunities to be selected by Olympique Lyonnais.

The decision to leave him out again underlines the present order in the position. With both Tagliafico and Abner ahead of him, Ouedraogo has yet to force his way into the group for Friday’s fixture.

However, his situation could change in the coming days because Tagliafico’s future at Lyon remains uncertain. According to L’Equipe, the Argentina international could still leave the club while some transfer markets remain open.

If Tagliafico departs, his exit would create space in the left-back positions and potentially give Ouedraogo a fresh opportunity. The Burkina Faso defender could then move closer to a return to the professional squad, depending on how the situation develops.

For now, though, the immediate decision is clear: Ouedraogo is not part of the players retained for the visit of AJ Auxerre. It is his second successive absence in Ligue 1, while Tagliafico and Abner remain ahead of him in the current Lyon hierarchy.

The possibility of a late change to the squad landscape means Ouedraogo’s prospects may not remain the same for long. Tagliafico’s potential departure could alter the competition for the position and leave the young defender with a new route into the first team.

Until then, he remains outside the group selected for Olympique Lyonnais’ next league match. His next opportunity will depend both on the club’s transfer situation and on whether he can move ahead of the players currently preferred at left-back.
