Lisandro Martinez’s public criticism of Manchester United’s leadership has reportedly divided the club’s dressing room into two groups.
The central defender spoke out after the club’s recent Champions League match against Atletico de Madrid, saying openly that the squad was not good enough.
The 28-year-old Argentina international also claimed Manchester United’s executives had handled the transfer campaign poorly, contributing to the team’s disappointing results during the opening months of the season.
According to journalist Samuel Luckhurst, some of Martinez’s team-mates appreciated the defender’s honesty. Others, however, were unhappy that he had criticised a fellow player publicly.
Martinez issued a statement on Wednesday explaining his widely reported comments.
