Maduka Okoye concedes desire for Super Eagles return

Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has opened up on his desire to return to the national team set up with the Super Eagles of Nigeria after missing out on the just concluded 2023 AFCON in Abdijan, Nigeriasoccernet.com writes.

The Super Eagles made it to the finals but lost to host Ivory Coast with the Udinese shot stopper watching from home as he did not make Jose Peseiro's final 25 man list at the 34th edition of the most prestigious competition on the African continent.

The goalie, who was formerly with Sparta Rotterdam before making the big move to Watford, where he struggled with injuries and inconsistencies, is currently in Italy playing as Udinese's first choice goalkeeper and is finding newfound success under manager Gabriele Cioffi.

“The national team is an important thing for me and I want to return as soon as possible. It was bad watching the Africa Cup of Nations from home, but this is football”, he admitted in his interview with TV12.

"The goal is that of all highly competitive players, I wanted and always want to play but I'm focused on work. Taking the field is a consequence, hopefully that will come in no time", he stated.
