Ogbeide  was presented to the players and  backroom staff  by the vice-chairman of the Makurdi Premier League outfit,  Mike Idoko,   at the Aper Aku Stadium  in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

The club announced the appointment of the veteran coach recently  following the exit of Godwin Uwua,  who was suspended by the management and later resigned his position.

Idoko  said Ogbeide was given a  one-year deal, adding  that at its  expiration, the management would decide  either to extend his contract or not based  on his performance.

He said,  “When Uwua resigned his appointment, some people started saying  that a particular tribe had taken over or hijacked the running of the club that belong to the entire Benue.

“We didn’t find  this  good enough. So, we met at the level of management and  decided to go for a neutral person that would head the coaching crew and we arrived at the decision to hire  Ogbeide.”

He  said   Ogbeide emerged as the choice of the people because of his experience in Nigerian football.

Idoko  appealed to the players and fans  to  support to the new coach to enable him  to take the team to greater  heights.

The football chief said,  “If you think you are in the team to work against the success of the club and the new dispensation, then you  had better leave quietly for  another club. No club in  the  Premier League is up to date in the payment of salaries  and match bonuses. At least, we have been able to pay the  players up to March  and I want to urge the players to put in their best by ensuring that we win more matches and get a continental ticket.”

Ogbeide  urged  the players to be ready to work hard and take  all games seriously.

The former Sunshine Stars and Warri Wolves coach  said,  “We must work together to turn around the team. You must be disciplined. You must win matches to get bonuses, you must not depend on your  monthly salaries alone.  What makes you a quality player is your ability to play regularly and win for yourself bonuses.”
