In a new report by Mexican outlet Mediotiempo, Cruz Azul seem very close to acquiring Venezuelan Romulo Otero.

Otero, who is a Venezuelan national team mainstay, is currently a free agent, so the Mexican team could sign him without a transfer fee, something that could signify a great value for Cruz Azul. According to the report, La Maquina's management already contacted the player's entourage, and Otero is expected to be traveling to Mexico City this Monday to undergo the routine medical checks and sign a contract.

Otero would bring a spark to the Cruz Azul attack, as he's a very technical player who likes to go one-on one with opposing defenders to create numerical superiority, as he showed more than once with Venezuela in the last Copa America. He could become a valid alternative to starting players like Roberto Alvarado and Orbelin Pineda if he does well.

Otero previously played in Brazil for Corinthians and Atletico Mineiro and in Chile for Huachipato. Other clubs were interested in his services like Boca Juniors, but the Venezuelan seems to have opted for Liga MX instead.
