The Lesotho Football Association (LEFA), in collaboration with the country’s Ministry of Sports, has officially declared its intention to join South Africa’s bid to host the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

In a formal letter addressed to the South African Ministry of Sports, LEFA confirmed Lesotho’s readiness to be part of a joint hosting arrangement, signalling strong regional backing for South Africa’s ambition to stage Africa’s flagship football tournament.

The development further strengthens the Southern African bloc, with Botswana having earlier confirmed its decision to partner with South Africa in the proposed multi-nation hosting plan.

The joint bid is expected to be built around shared infrastructure, logistics, and regional cooperation, aligning with the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) increasing openness to co-hosting models for major continental competitions.

With momentum continuing to build behind the Southern African proposal, focus now shifts to CAF’s selection process, as several countries across the continent are also expected to submit competing bids for the right to host AFCON 2028.
