Karim Konate: five possible next moves for RB Salzburg striker

Published on: 09 October 2026

At 22, Karim Konate is attracting growing interest from clubs across Europe, with Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Nottingham Forest and Sunderland among the possible destinations for the RB Salzburg forward.

The Ivory Coast international is under contract with the Austrian club until June 2028 and is currently valued at 12 million euros by Transfermarkt. With his performances drawing attention from an increasing number of suitors, five potential paths are emerging for the next stage of his career.

Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund is one of the German clubs monitoring Konate’s development. Impressed by the striker’s attacking qualities, the Bundesliga side is reported to have already made enquiries with his representatives.

A move to Dortmund would give Konate the opportunity to take a significant step forward in a league known for providing regular exposure to young players.

RB Leipzig

RB Leipzig represents another credible option. The club has a well-established record of signing high-performing players from within the Red Bull network and is familiar with the potential of footballers developed or discovered at Salzburg.

Konate could therefore follow a route already taken by several talents who made their name in Austria before moving to Leipzig.

Nottingham Forest

The Premier League is also a possible destination for the Ivorian. Nottingham Forest are reported to have included Konate on their list of attacking targets as they look to strengthen their forward line.

The English club could have the financial resources required to persuade RB Salzburg to enter negotiations over a transfer.

Sunderland

Sunderland are also following Konate’s situation closely. The project being developed by the English club could give the striker an important role in attack and provide him with the chance to experience a new footballing environment.

A move to England would allow him to continue his development while aiming to establish himself at the highest level over the long term.

Staying at RB Salzburg

Konate could instead opt for continuity in Austria. With his contract running until June 2028, he still has considerable room to develop at RB Salzburg.

The club may decide to retain him to benefit from his performances in European competitions and wait for a further increase in his market value. With Transfermarkt currently estimating his worth at 12 million euros, Salzburg could choose to delay any decision on a sale.

Dortmund will soon play Werder Bremen in the fifth round of the German league season. Betting company 1xbet lists Dortmund as favourites at 1.32, with a draw priced at 5.30 and a Werder Bremen victory at 6.60.
