Jordan Lefort’s exceptional run of playing every minute of his league matches came to an end after the Angers defender was sent off during Saturday evening’s 5-1 defeat at Brest.
The Mauritania international was shown a red card in the 59th minute following a review by the video assistant referee, bringing an extraordinary sequence of consistency to a close on the sixth matchday of Ligue 1.
Before the match, Lefort had completed 7,439 consecutive minutes in league football without missing a minute, according to L’Equipe. He had played 82 league matches from kick-off to the final whistle, including added time, with 73 of those appearances coming in Ligue 1.
The run highlighted Lefort’s reliability and importance to the Angers defence. Over the previous two seasons, he had gone further by completing every league fixture in its entirety, making him the only outfield player to achieve that feat during the period.
There was an element of coincidence in the venue where the record ended. Lefort had also completed the 2025/26 season at Brest, featuring in a 1-1 draw. Several months later, the same stadium witnessed the end of his sequence during a difficult night for Angers.
Despite the abrupt interruption, Lefort remains an important member of the SCO squad. The Mauritanian defender is under contract with Angers until 2029 and his current market value is estimated at 1 million euros by Transfermarkt.
He will now have to serve his suspension before he can return to Ligue 1 action. Angers’ next league fixture is against Marseille in the seventh round of the French championship.
