Iwobi Receives Heavy Hammer From Tony Adams

Arsenal attacker, Alex Iwobi is under hammer from Gunners’ legend, Tony Adams, following a pathetic outing by the Super Eagles’ star against Manchester City at the weekend.

While many Arsenal fans are also scolding Iwobi, not only for giving away the ball that led to Man City’s first goal, but for a generally poor outing, footballlive.ng can report that Adams believes the Nigerian star should started the fixture from the bench, not in the first eleven.

Adams opined that Arsenal gaffer, Unai Emery got it wrong in according Iwobi a starting role at Etihad Stadium, in which the London-based club’s former under-21 team skipper won only 27.3% of his duels.

Iwobi also failed to inspire Arsenal’s attack, with no shot, no tackles won and attempted only 18 passes, which highlighted a torrid performance of lethargy, until he was replaced in in the 66th minute by Aaron Ramsey.

Much to the chagrin of Arsenal fans, Iwobi was dispossessed of the ball after just 48 seconds of play, which led to City’s first goal by hat-trick hero, Sergio Aguero, whose treble helped his side win 3-1

Adams stated: “I would have played Aaron Ramsey in midfield because he would have offered some solidity to the team in midfield not Iwobi.

“Against Manchester United, Arsenal were too open and were duly punished in a swift counter-attack in which Iwobi came on and I don’t think he will be good in this formation particularly against City.”
