Nigerian forward Victor Boniface bares his soul, describing the agony of missing out on the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations due to injury, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports
The Bayer Leverkusen striker's dreams were dashed when he suffered an adductor injury during the Super Eagles' preparations for the tournament, sidelining him for three long months.
Boniface's road to recovery was fraught with challenges, but he finally returned to action at the end of last month.
Speaking to AFP via Transfermarkt, Boniface candidly shares the emotional toll of his absence from both the AFCoN and crucial Bundesliga fixtures, labeling it as one of the most painful moments of his career.
“It was difficult, one of the most painful moments of my career—not only the injury itself but, of course, also my absence from the Africa Cup of Nations and some important Bundesliga games,” The 23 year-old said .
“But that’s football; you have ups; you have downs. It’s about your attitude and your mindset. You need the right people around you in moments like this. I had the support of the club; that was important.”
Since return to team last month, the striker has scored two goals for Xavi Alonso’s side.
