Iwobi Makes CAF Awards Short List, Musa Out

Arsenal attacker, Alex Iwobi remains in the running for the 2018 African Footballer of the Year award, following his inclusion in the last set of nominees for the prize, but Al-Nassr of Saudi Arabia star Ahmed Miss has been dropped .

Iwobi is one of four nominees left in the contest, as he has been short-listed alongside fellow-Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Gabon, Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah from Egypt and Sadio Mane from Senegal, who also plays for Liverpool.

Aside Iwobi, Nigeria also has representation in the female version, as three-time winner, Asisat Oshoala as well as African Women Cup of Nations 2018 stars, Francesca Ordega and Onome Ebi make the top 11.

Musa’s former teammate at Leicester City, Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi is also among three nominees for Young Player of the Year, while Super Falcons’ gaffer, Thomas Dennerby is in the race for Women’s Football Coach of the Year, after he guided Nigeria to a ninth AWCON in Ghana

The awards ceremony will be staged on January 8 in Dakar, Senegal, with Salah tipped for a back-to-back conquest of the glamour prize, ahead of home boy and Anfield mate, Sane, while Iwobi looks less likely to win and may miss out on the podium behind his club pal, Aubameyang.
