Isaak Toure ends two-year wait for FC Lorient starting return

Published on: 11 October 2026

Isaak Toure made his first start for FC Lorient in more than two years on Saturday, helping his side beat Paris FC 1-0. The 23-year-old defender played 87 minutes as he returned to the starting XI after a difficult period affected by injuries and problems away from football.

Toure had waited 895 days to begin another match for Lorient. His previous start came on 28 April 2024, but he has now regained his place after rebuilding his fitness and match sharpness with the reserve team.

The defender’s performance against Paris FC offered encouragement following a prolonged absence from regular first-team football. His return was made more significant by the result, with Lorient securing victory through a 1-0 scoreline.

Toure, who stands 2.06m tall, joined Lorient from Olympique de Marseille in 2023 in a transfer estimated at about €8m. The move brought considerable expectations, but his progress was subsequently disrupted by injuries and difficulties outside the game.

He acknowledged that he had not met those expectations and offered apologies to Lorient and the club’s supporters. The defender has also spoken about the challenging months he experienced away from the pitch, as he looks to draw a line under that period.

The appearance against Paris FC represents a fresh opportunity for Toure to establish himself in the Lorient side. He remains under contract with the club until 2028 and is currently valued at €1.2m by Transfermarkt.

His return to the team could prove an important moment in his time in Brittany, although he will need to maintain his level in the coming matches. Lorient’s next fixture will be against Monaco in the seventh round of the French championship.

For that match, 1xbet lists odds of 3.40 for a Lorient win, 3.40 for a draw and 1.96 for Monaco to win.
