Sporting Lagos head coach Jeffrey Buter says the return of Odinaka Okoro and the recent form of Victor Samuel have strengthened his squad ahead of their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 9 meeting with Plateau United.

Samuel played a decisive role in Sporting Lagos’ latest victory after Bendel Insurance took the lead just 18 seconds into the match.

The forward brought his side level before Gafar Olaniyan completed the comeback, securing all three points for Sporting Lagos in front of their home supporters.

Buter was particularly pleased with Samuel’s contribution, having seen the player respond to an early setback with an influential performance.

“I’m really happy for Samuel after what he has gone through. He is a dynamic player,” Buter said.

The manager also welcomed the availability of Okoro, who has returned to the squad after a period on the sidelines with injury.

“Odinaka Okoro is back in the team after some time out. As a young lad, I am happy for him too,” he added.

Sporting Lagos now turn their attention to a Plateau United side that will provide a different challenge in their next league fixture. The match will also see Buter face Shola Adegun, a former colleague and friend who is now part of Plateau United’s technical setup.

Buter said their previous working relationship had added interest to the encounter, although his focus remained on preparing Sporting Lagos for the fixture.

“We go back and prepare ahead of Plateau United on Matchday 9, with Shola Adegun, who is a friend and colleague. We shared the dugout, and he is now with Plateau United,” he explained.
