Tidiam Gomis could be included in Patrick Vieira’s next Senegal squad after impressing during his breakthrough season with RB Leipzig.
The 20-year-old winger faced Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday, just one day before Vieira is due to announce his squad on Thursday. The Senegal manager is understood to be particularly interested in Gomis’ profile and is seriously considering handing him his first call-up.
Gomis has made a strong start to life in Germany since joining RB Leipzig from Stade Malherbe de Caen. He has scored four goals and provided two assists in 13 appearances this season, establishing himself as one of the club’s emerging attacking players in the Bundesliga.
His progress has also been evident in Europe. Gomis scored his first Champions League goal against Real Madrid at the Santiago-Bernabeu and was given another opportunity to test himself at the highest level when RB Leipzig played Manchester City.
The winger’s pace, direct running and ability to beat opponents one-on-one are qualities that appeal to Vieira. His inclusion would also allow Senegal to begin integrating a young player whose development has been followed for several years.
Gomis, who has represented France at youth level, is of Franco-Senegalese background and is understood to have expressed a desire to play for the country of his origins.
Senegal’s attacking options
The potential first call-up comes as Vieira reshapes his attacking plans before Senegal’s double-header against Sudan on 12 and 16 November in the Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifiers.
Sadio Mane is expected to return to the squad, but Ismaila Sarr and Abdallah Sima will be unavailable. There are also doubts over Assane Diao, Habib Diarra and Bara Sapoko Ndiaye, leaving the coach with several decisions to make in the forward positions.
According to Match360, Vieira is also considering recalling Dion Lopy, who has not played for Senegal since March 2025. Brest winger Pathe Mboup is another player reportedly under consideration.
If Gomis is selected, his arrival could come at the expense of Mamadou Diakhon or Issa Soumare. Vieira nevertheless has a number of established attacking options available, including Iliman Ndiaye, Nicolas Jackson, Boulaye Dia and Ibrahim Mbaye.
The interest in Gomis is understood to be genuine, but his place in the squad is not yet guaranteed. Vieira must decide whether to make the move during this international window or wait before handing the RB Leipzig winger his Senegal debut.
