Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan has again insisted that Paul Onuachu will remain at the Turkish Super Lig club, dismissing suggestions that the Nigeria international could leave during the current transfer period.
Onuachu has been strongly linked with a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia, while further speculation emerged after Trabzonspor signed Guinea-Bissau international Franculino Dju from Danish club FC Midtjylland.
The arrival of the 21-year-old forward led to claims that Trabzonspor could be prepared to sell Onuachu, but Dogan said the Black Sea Storm would not consider offers for their striker.
“There is no question of Paul Onuachu leaving. He is the league’s top scorer; such a situation is out of the question,” Dogan was quoted by marasbugun.com.tr.
Dogan’s comments represent the latest public indication that Trabzonspor view Onuachu as central to their plans, despite the transfer interest surrounding the 32-year-old.
Onuachu shared the Turkish Super Lig’s top-scorer award last season with Istanbul Basaksehir’s Eldor Shomurodov. Both players finished the campaign with 22 goals.
The Nigeria international has, however, yet to score in five appearances across all competitions this season. That slow start has added to the attention surrounding his position at Trabzonspor, particularly following the club’s decision to bring in another international forward in Franculino Dju.
Despite those developments, Dogan rejected the possibility of an Onuachu departure and made clear that the club has no intention of entertaining a proposal for the striker.
The president’s statement also follows comments from the Trabzonspor manager that Onuachu needs time to rediscover his scoring form. The forward’s contribution last season made him one of the leading attacking players in the Turkish Super Lig, where his 22 goals placed him level with Shomurodov at the top of the scoring standings.
For now, Trabzonspor’s position is that Onuachu is not available, even as reports continue to connect him with a move to Saudi Arabia. The club’s stance is unchanged following Franculino Dju’s arrival, with Dogan stressing that the prospect of the Nigerian leaving is “out of the question”.
