Super Falcons target Olympic qualifying progress with Comoros win

Nigeria’s Super Falcons will aim to finish off Comoros and reach the third round of the African qualifying series for the 2028 Olympic Women’s Football Tournament on Tuesday.

The 10-time African champions take a 2-0 lead into the second leg at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, having won the opening match last Saturday.

Defender Michelle Alozie and forward Uchenna Kanu scored for Nigeria in the first leg, giving the Super Falcons a significant advantage before the decisive meeting.

The tie is being played entirely in Nigeria because Comoros does not have a Confederation of African Football (CAF)-approved stadium for international fixtures. As a result, Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo is hosting both matches.

Nigeria’s immediate objective is to protect their aggregate lead and secure another step towards the 2028 Olympic Games. Progression would put them into the third qualifying round, where they would face Morocco in March 2027.

The Super Falcons are seeking back-to-back appearances at the Olympics after returning to the women’s football tournament at Paris 2024. That campaign ended a 16-year absence from the Games for Nigeria.

Comoros must overturn a two-goal deficit to remain in contention, while Nigeria only need to avoid defeat by a margin that would surrender their advantage.

The aggregate winner will advance to the next stage of the African qualifying competition and meet Morocco for a place in the subsequent phase.
