Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard says “everyone connected with Manchester City” should reflect on the club’s situation as they face possible punishment for numerous financial rule breaches.
Manchester City have appealed against the case. Reports have previously suggested the club could be expelled from the Premier League if found guilty.
Gerrard also said he does not expect to receive a Premier League winners’ medal for the 2013-14 season, when Liverpool finished second behind Manchester City.
The former Liverpool captain was speaking about the possibility of action being taken against Manchester City over the alleged breaches. However, despite Liverpool’s runners-up finish that season, Gerrard does not believe he will ultimately be awarded a medal.
“Everyone connected with Manchester City should think about it,” Gerrard said.
Manchester City’s appeal remains part of the process, while the reported possibility of expulsion from the Premier League has added to the uncertainty surrounding the case.
