Italian defender Alessio Romagnoli has ended his time with Lazio to join Qatar Stars League club Al-Sadd on a contract running until 2029.
The 31-year-old centre-back’s move was confirmed by Al-Sadd’s club press office, which announced that Romagnoli had signed a long-term employment agreement with the Qatari side.
Reports in the media had previously stated that Al-Sadd would pay €3m to complete the transfer. The move takes Romagnoli away from Italian football after he represented Lazio from 2022.
Romagnoli spent the past seasons as part of Lazio’s squad and featured regularly during the most recent Serie A campaign. He appeared in 32 league matches, receiving five yellow cards and being sent off once.
His departure brings to an end a period in Rome that began in 2022, with the defender now set to continue his career in Qatar. Al-Sadd’s agreement keeps him at the club through 2029, underlining the long-term nature of the move.
The transfer also marks a change of domestic competition for Romagnoli, who had spent the previous part of his career in Italy’s top flight. His latest Serie A campaign included 32 appearances, five cautions and one dismissal before his switch to Al-Sadd.
Lazio and Al-Sadd have therefore completed a move involving an experienced Italian defender, with the Qatari club agreeing a reported €3m fee and securing Romagnoli’s services on a deal that runs until 2029.
