Richarlison could leave Tottenham as a free agent after the club reportedly began considering an early termination of the Brazilian forward’s contract, according to talkSPORT.
The 29-year-old is understood to be facing an uncertain future at Tottenham because head coach Roberto De Zerbi does not currently see him as part of his plans. The club are therefore assessing whether ending the agreement would allow the forward to move on despite the closure of the transfer window in Turkey.
Richarlison was linked with a return to Everton last summer, but that proposed transfer did not go through. He has since attracted interest from Trabzonspor, with the player and the Turkish club reportedly reaching an agreement over the terms of a contract.
However, the transfer cannot now be completed because Turkey’s window has closed. That has led Tottenham to consider releasing Richarlison from the remainder of his deal, which would allow him to join Trabzonspor or another club without a transfer fee.
Richarlison remains under contract with Tottenham until the middle of 2027. His possible departure as a free agent would therefore bring an early end to an agreement that still has almost a year remaining beyond the current season, according to the details reported by talkSPORT.
The situation leaves Tottenham weighing the benefits of retaining a player who is not currently in De Zerbi’s plans against the possibility of allowing him to leave without a fee. No transfer can take place through the Turkish window at present, making the termination of the contract the route being considered in connection with Trabzonspor’s interest.
Richarlison’s market value is estimated at €25m by Transfermarkt. That figure represents the website’s assessment of the forward, while a contract termination would mean Tottenham receiving no transfer payment if he departed as a free agent.
The Brazilian’s immediate future is therefore dependent on whether Tottenham decide to end the contract before its scheduled expiry in 2027. For now, the club are reported to be considering that option after the failed Everton move and the closure of the Turkish transfer window.
