Victor Osimhen and Kelechi Iheanacho are leading the scoring charts in Turkey’s top two divisions after impressive starts to the season.
Osimhen has scored six goals in four matches for Galatasaray in the Trendyol Super Lig, while Iheanacho has also found the net six times in his first five games in the Trendyol Birinci Lig.
Osimhen’s latest goal came as Galatasaray won 3-2 away against Basaksehir. The Nigeria international’s contribution helped his side secure victory in a closely contested match and moved him to the top of the Super Lig scoring standings after four rounds of fixtures.
The forward’s run of form has made him one of the leading attacking players in the division at the start of the campaign. However, his latest appearance ended with an injury concern after he was forced to leave the pitch.
According to information obtained by Odatv, Osimhen suffered the problem after stretching his leg too far during the match. He then experienced muscle pain and was unable to continue.
The extent of the injury was not stated in the report, leaving the Galatasaray forward’s condition as the immediate concern surrounding his otherwise prolific start to the season.
Iheanacho, meanwhile, has made an equally striking impact in the Trendyol Birinci Lig. The striker has scored six goals and supplied two assists across his opening five matches, giving him the same goal total as Osimhen while playing in Turkey’s second tier.
His return has placed him at the top of the division’s scoring chart and underlined the strong start made by the Super Eagles pair in Turkish football. Between them, Osimhen and Iheanacho have scored 12 goals in their first nine league appearances, with Iheanacho also contributing two assists.
Osimhen’s six-goal haul came over four matches in the Trendyol Super Lig, while Iheanacho reached the same mark one game later in the Trendyol Birinci Lig. Their performances mean Nigerian forwards currently occupy the leading position in the scoring race in each of the country’s two principal professional divisions.
For Osimhen, the immediate focus will be on the muscle problem sustained during Galatasaray’s win over Basaksehir. For Iheanacho, the opening five matches have brought six goals and two assists as he continues to lead the scoring standings in the Trendyol Birinci Lig.
