Real Betis moved on to 19 points from their opening eight La Liga matches after an emphatic 5-2 victory against Osasuna on Sunday, setting a new club record for this stage of a top-flight season.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side produced another impressive display in Seville, with Isco scoring twice. Abde Ezzalzouli, Diego Llorente and Jose Antonio Morante were also on target as Betis secured their sixth victory of the campaign.

The result leaves Betis level on points with Atletico Madrid in second place and extends their strong start to the season.

Their 19-point haul is the highest in the club’s history after eight top-flight matches. It surpasses the previous record of 17 points, set during the 1996/97 season.

Betis have won six, drawn one and lost one of their opening eight games. That record matches their start to the 1934/35 campaign, when they went on to win the Spanish league title.

The victory over Osasuna underlined Betis’ early-season form and gave Pellegrini’s team another notable milestone as they continue their challenge near the top of La Liga.
