Raphinha matches Neymar’s Barcelona Champions League tally in fewer games

Barcelona forward Raphinha has drawn level with Neymar’s Champions League goal total for the club, reaching 21 goals in six fewer appearances after scoring twice against Feyenoord.

The Brazil international struck in the third and 57th minutes as Barcelona opened their league-phase campaign with a 5-1 victory over Feyenoord on Wednesday.

Raphinha’s brace took his Champions League tally for Barcelona to 21 goals, matching the number scored by his compatriot Neymar during his time at the Catalan club.

However, Raphinha has reached that figure in 34 matches, while Neymar needed 40 appearances to score his 21 goals for Barcelona.

The achievement underlines the speed with which Raphinha has built his record in Europe’s leading club competition since joining Barcelona from Leeds in the summer of 2022.

His first goal against Feyenoord came after three minutes, giving Barcelona an early lead. He then struck again in the second half, finding the net in the 57th minute as Barcelona completed their five-goal victory.

The result also ensured that Raphinha’s latest goals were immediately significant for his personal record at the club. He now shares the same Champions League total as Neymar despite having played six fewer matches in the competition for Barcelona.

Neymar represented Barcelona from 2013 to 2017, while Raphinha remains the more recent arrival, having moved to the club from Leeds in 2022.

Both players are Brazil internationals and have now scored 21 Champions League goals for Barcelona. Raphinha’s total reached that mark in 34 appearances, compared with Neymar’s 40.

For Raphinha, the two goals against Feyenoord provided a notable milestone at the start of Barcelona’s league-phase campaign. They also placed his Champions League scoring record for the club alongside that of one of Barcelona’s most prominent Brazilian forwards.

Barcelona’s 5-1 win over Feyenoord was played on Wednesday, with Raphinha contributing both the opening and the final goal of his personal account in the match. His strikes secured the statistical landmark and brought him level with Neymar in the club’s Champions League scoring standings.
